This is a strikingly handsome Continental Open Arm chair that dates to the 19th century and derives its design elements from the Queen Anne/George II style popular in England. It is beautifully carved with a fine shell carving tot he center splat, out-swept arm terminals and the knees. The needlepoint tapestry is recent. The chair has been refinished, but not skimmed so that it retains much of its original character and patina. This chair could function as an accent piece in multiple style of living space–it can even take the place of a fine sculpture.
