Modern MB-WB 301 Chair by Marcel Breuer, 1930s

Sculptural qualities define this object. A vivid dynamic between different gestures and surfaces, showing different qualities from different angles. Its experimental approach reveals a complex shape. The expressive frame is folded out of a piece of flat steel, shaped in a manner so to resemble a sleigh. Although strong in its expression, the appearance of the chair is rather tender. Along with its curved corners, the frame, together with thin plywood used for the seat, creates a delicate structure which appears almost flexible. All parts are authentic. The seat is done in plywood, while the backseat is in wood, and remain in their original condition. The metal is rich in surface and reveals a wonderful patina. To keep the value of the item and its authenticity, the finish wasn’t overpainted, while the character of the surface was preserved in its original condition. I think this piece blends well with many interior styles. As a chair with a special expression, it is an interesting detail wherever placed. P!
