This is a most stunning pair of bronze female and male figurine antique bookends. The clothes/attire of the figures indicate them to be individuals from the 1700s. I certainly get the feeling the young man is trying to charm an interested young lady. He’s holding a rabbit – a gift, a dinner date or maybe he was out hunting and they simply bumped into each other in a field???
Whilst these bookends portray characters are from the 1700s, I would date the bookends to the late 1800s.
One of the bookends is marked discreetly on the lower back: “H.P Ana 1295-P”. The other has a vague marking in pen (?) underneath. I’m not sure what either is a reference to, however, another interesting fact is that these bookends were most recently sourced at the “Sony Prop House” closing-down estate sale in Los Angeles. So if you think you may have seen these in a film or T.V., show then you probably have!
Made out of bronze these HEAVY bookends have worn wonderfully in parts – just adding to the pair’s history and charm. Supporting books, or simply standing alone, they are going to look fabulous upon whichever shelf or desk they eventually find themselves on.
The female measures: 4″ width at her base x 8 3/4″ height x 5 7/8″ depth. She weighs a hefty 5lb 2oz. The male measures: 4″ width at her base x 9″ height x 5 3/4″ depth. He weighs a similarly solid 4lb 13oz.
All our items are well packed, tracked and fully insured. These bookends will arrive to you in the exact condition as pictured.

moreCONDITION PLEASE READ: This pair show definite signs of age as all great antique items do. Examine all the pictures closely. They are beautifully worn in places. The female’s left arm is a little loose at the elbow. She also has a (deliberate) hole in her hand, which indicates that this figure was once holding something (a basket maybe?) The male figure has a tiny split in his hat (see pic #10). His pole is a little loose and comes up slightly off the tree root if one tries to move it. Zoom in & out to get a good sense of their exact condition: a picture tells a thousand words. You will receive the exact bookends pictured here. less
