1898 Sterling Silver Trophy Cup From Durlands Riding Academy Nyc

A wonderful and rare piece of New York City, horseback riding history! This is an antique circa 1898 Sterling silver trophy cup engraved from William Durland to Baron Paul Veitinghoff. The baron was one of the Victorian era New York’s preeminent riding instructors, and in 1898 he began teaching instructing the Knickerbocker Riding Club (old New York society’s favored riding club), which met at Derland’s Riding Academy, once considered the grandest of New York City’s horseback riding facilities! This cup was probably presented to Baron Paul Veitinghoff by Derland’s owner when he agreed to begin instructing there.

In excellent condition for its age, no dents or damage, just small surface marks, light, tarnish, and signs of use and age. Measures approximately 6.75” tall by 7.25” across the arms.
